THE WHAT
This raw and rugged cuff has more to it than first meets the eye, as it’s made of tiny braids - woven into a larger braid - featuring five threads... Intricate and satisfying to the touch, this cuff goes through quite the journey when made…
THE STORY
For those of you curious romantics, hair has long since been a symbol of strength, love, ritual and memory, playing a roll in jewelry throughout history. It’s well documented throughout the middle ages, from Celtic folklore to Swedish proverbs right up to the early twentieth century.
THE PROCESS
The piece goes through a multiple step process of soaking in melted sculptors wax, cast into metal from a direct burn out, resulting in a pocked and gritty piece. It’s then buffered, smoothed and hammered into the piece you see here. The metals are thenl "smoked" and the natural process of weathering is accelerated to create that rich, urban decayed patina, giving these beautifully textured and unruly pieces added dimension. There is no hair inside this piece, but the original cast is woven from hair.
Dare to be different...
